Gary Burroughs

I have lived in Niagara on the Lake for most of my life. My children grew up here and, while they have moved away, their children, my grandchildren, are frequent visitors. I am passionate about our Town. There is much to be done and issues to deal with. I want to continue to contribute as your Councillor.

I have considerable experience in both local politics and in the private sector. I have served this community over many years as Regional Chair and Councillor and Lord Mayor and Town Councillor. I started my career in public accounting. I was the owner- operator of the Oban Inn for many years. I was a controller and treasurer for a small business in the aerospace industry.

I have a history of involvement in our community.

    • Chair of the Shaw Festival Theatre and the Niagara Parks Commission.
    • Member of the Niagara Foundation, the Niagara Police Services Board and the Selection Panel for the Niagara Health System.
    • Governor of Niagara College and the Ridley College Foundation.
    • President of the NOTL Chamber of Commerce and the NOTL Golf Club.
    • Member of St Mark’s Church and responsible for its finances.

I was Niagara on the Lake Citizen of the Year, received the Niagara Foundation Living Landmark Award and Ridley’s Ridlean of Distinction.

Throughout my political and business career I have been results-oriented and displayed strategic, financial and political acumen, proven business management and leadership skills.

I graduated from McMaster University and I received a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants (formerly Institute of Chartered Accountants).

I am collaborative and a team player who can lead public and private sector organizations with the necessary interpersonal skills and a proven ability to deliver results by motivating others to focus on and achieve agreed upon objectives.
